The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has released a Drinking Water Road Map to help Benton Harbor residents know what to do when it comes to the water coming out of their taps. The state health department says as the project to replace lead lines wraps up, there are still some steps residents should take. It recommends residents use lead-reducing filters or bottled water until the state has cleared the home’s plumbing for use. The department also recommends scheduling free lead inspection and abatement services for the home, getting the plumbing fixed, and getting the water tested. The Berrien County Health Department continues to provide free lead filters. Anyone who needs one should call the health department.
