Could Michigan be the next destination for tech companies? Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist is pitching our state as the perfect place to start a new tech hub. Thanks to a new $500-million federal grant, regional hubs will be created across the country. Gilchrist says the money could be used to both retain tech talent and attract new talent.
“We also need to attract the kind of entrepreneurs who grew up here, who were going to school here, who were hustling here, to start their business and get their funding here. Then, we can attract that kind of talent from elsewhere to come build their future in Michigan as well.”
With only 20 regions being selected, and $25-million per hub, there will be competition. However, if Michigan were to land a hub, it could be used to create high paying jobs and support tech start-ups, so that next business owner won’t leave the state for a job opportunity.
