South Haven Area Emergency Services was able to make short work of a truck fire on Thursday. SHAES says firefighters were called out to the I-196 rest area in Casco Township north of South Haven around 7:45 a.m. They found a big rig engulfed in flames when they arrived. The driver said he had just pulled into the rest area while on the way to Holland when flames appeared in the engine compartment. Firefighters put out the blaze, but the tractor of the semi was destroyed. The earth moving equipment it was hauling was not damaged. The driver and his dog were both uninjured.
